What’s the point of creating art that exposes one’s own political opinion? Isn’t it self-indulgent? Ineffectual? When has art ever changed someone’s political stance? And aren’t you usually singing to the choir anyway?

I do it not in a vain attempt to influence but rather from an imperative to communicate—to express my dissent. I believe that complacency indicates complicity.

If I stand aside mutely, then I am silently offering my consent. Like when your racist uncle tells an obscene joke, will you sit back, silently judge and hold your tongue? Or will you say something?

Trump’s indifference to human suffering (humanity as a whole really) is incomprehensible. I can’t stand idly by. I protest, I call my representatives and I express my opinion through art. I have to. These are unusual times that necessitate one to speak up for humanity.
